Rainbow Bee-eater

Rainbow Bee-eater (Image ID 36684)
CommentAt first I thought the male (longer tail streamers) was simply having a routine stretch, displaying his magnificent colours – but time after time he would fly off and then quickly return and adopt the same pose. Each time getting closer to the female. I then formed the opinion that this was a courtship ritual. I was pleased with the position of the sun in relation to the birds as it highlighted the plumage of both the male and female birds without casting too many harsh shadows. I was also pleased that both birds were on the same focal plane allowing good focus on the pair of them.
