Red-rumped Parrot

Red-rumped Parrot (Image ID 36588)
CommentThis pair have established a nest in some old Willows in one of the streams in the Wetlands. The hollows are small but these parrots are small enough to utilise them. There are not yet big old eucalypts here for larger species to access larger hollows as the Reserve is still quite young.
I liked the way the light was hitting this pair giving their bodies shape and the feathers texture. I had ti wait quite a while to get them in this position where the catch light was in both eyes and they were both in sharp focus. I also found the contrast of the birds colour against the texture and darker colour of the Willow wood quite pleasing. In addition the angles created by the timber gave me a nice balanced composition after cropping a little.
