European Goldfinch

European Goldfinch (Image ID 36025)
CommentThis bird is uncommon to us in our home area so it was lovely to see these birds on our travels in Southern Victoria. We had just alighted from our vehicle in Nelson Vic to visit the information centre when this finch flew into a tree close to our vehicle. The morning light was excellent for photography and allowed the colours of the bird to show nicely. I was within the birds comfort zone and was unable to move to position myself for a better use of the prevailing light. The photo is hand held at 1/1600 sec with an aperture of f6.3 and an ISO of 320. The result is good, but on reflection perhaps a shutter speed of 800 would have been more appropriate as this would have given a lower ISO level which would have reduced the noise levels.
