House Sparrow

House Sparrow (Image ID 35773)
CommentIt hasn't been a priority of mine to photograph introduced species probably because some are considered pests. Then I realised that this is not their fault - they have just adapted well to a new environment over a relatively long period of time. When this competition was announced I went out specifically looking for introduced species and found this sparrow sitting on the historic convict built bridge at Ross. I liked the idea of an old world species (from Europe) sitting on what, from an Australian perspective, is an old world structure built in 1836. The fact that there is no foliage in the image removed distractions and made it easy to achieve a nice bokeh.
