  • Green Pygmy-Goose at Ewen Maddock Dam--Kowald Road reported by Martin Ryan on 21-05-2019
One male foraging mainly in open water with Eurasian Coots. Similar size to Coots but body, head and bill shaped like Cotton Pygmy-Goose, 14 of which were also in vicinity. Distinctive white cheek patch, dark back flashing iridescent green when catching sunlight. Neck appeared dull black rather than glossy dark green. Underparts appeared dark grey, too distant for fine barring to be visible. In southern section of dam where power lines cross. About 200 - 300 metres north of floating yellow boom between eastern shoreline and reeds. Can be viewed from walking track 200 - 300 metres LEFT from end of Kowald Rd, or by driving few hundred metres to the RIGHT from end of Kowald Rd then walking east along power lines easement to shoreline. Only identifiable with spotting scope.
