The BirdLife Photography (BLP) website has accumulated a large number of useful articles, written by members and others and published in our bimonthly Newsletters. The BLP committee has been aware for some time that members' would like easier access to these resources, particularly where they provide advice about bird photography techniques, post-processing of images, and equipment. This was one of the conclusions from our member survey earlier this year. Logically, our Newsletters are published by date, but this means that there is has been no straightforward access to the wealth of information available on a topic by topic basis.
We have now published a new resource on the website which provides direct access to a range of Newsletter articles by subject matter. This can be accessed by clicking on the Resources link at the top of the page, and navigating to Our Articles. Articles are grouped into four topic areas:
- Photography Techniques and Processes
- Image Processing
- Articles about Equipment
- In-depth Technical Articles
Clicking on these links will take you to a list of the articles together with a few lines of text explaining what they cover. Clicking on the relevant article will download the file.
We deliberately kept the categories simple and few in number, although this means that some articles will overlap between categories.
This resource covers selected articles of an educational nature. Articles have been included from 2012 to the present, as 2012 is when newsletters were published through BirdLife Photography. There are Newsletters prior to this time, under the PhotoBOCA banner, but we decided not to include articles earlier than 2012 as both cameras and post-processing software have changed substantially from then.
Please note that initially, articles are published as they were written in the Newsletters. This means they are set in time; they may refer to old models of equipment or old versions of software, but we judged that the information was still relevant and useful. It is possible we will update articles, in which case the link on the Our Articles would take you to the updated article, not the original Newsletter article (which will still be available separately). Also, as new articles become available in Newsletters in the future, they will be added to this resource.
We are continuing to consider other options for providing helpful resources to members. In the meantime, we hope that members find the new resource useful.
