CommentWhile sometimes encountered in large flocks on the mainland, this species is a quite rare visitor to northern Tasmania, and even rarer in the south of the state. Consequently this solitary and remarkably tolerant individual in non-breeding plumage attracted quite a lot of attention during its residence at Goulds Lagoon for most of January. They are tricky to photograph, being a mostly dark bird whose bottle-green iridescence briefly flashes into prominence at certain angles to direct sunlight - which of course can create its own issues with harsh shadows. The distinctive white line bordering the facial skin is visible in this image.
