All entrants were able to identify this bird correctly. However, not all were able to provide correct answers for the additional questions.

The Terek Sandpiper is a small wader and the only member of the genus Xenus. It is named after the Terek River in the Northern Caucasus where it was first observed.

Easy to identify, this bird has a long up-curved bill and short bright yellow or orange legs. It has a high crown and a steep forehead with a grey-brown supercilium and white eye ring. Folded wings just reach tail tip and, in fight, feet project well beyond tail tip.

In breeding plumage, birds have a streaked breast with a dusky grey-brown wash and a dark line along scapulars.

In non-breeding plumage, birds are rather plain with pale-grey upperparts and a faintly streaked breast and and a dark carpal joint.
