CommentPelican's beak/knitted jumper.

The original image was heavily cropped in DPP4 then rotated 90 degrees counterclockwise. The degree of cropping was the decision to exclude eye, beak and white feather details from the image. The image was then converted to TIF file and then exported to PSE 13. Various combinations of saturation, hue, contrast and sharpening settings were then tried. Having first envisaged a landscape, I eventually opted to try to make the image look like the folds of a knitted jumper. Colour, strength, and flexibility being the elements in common between a Pelican's beak and a knitted jumper.
Eventually, I chose standard settings for everything except for saturation which was applied at full strength.
This particular Pelican is the survivor of a captive pair held at Tidbinbilla Nature Reserve. It was being hand-fed with Sand Whiting when I took this image.
