CommentThe Male Regent Bowerbird is the star but this bird was quite impressive.
Difficult to sex and age the bird in this photograph as females generally have a yellow brown iris or flecks of yellow in iris, and juveniles a brown iris giving the appearance of a dark eye. Female gape yellow in breeding season (shown here) and brown-eyed females noted as breeding. The typical black mark on throat of adult female is not clear in this photograph; there appears to be wear on the throat and breast feathers. Juveniles have white shaft streaks on tertials, nape and hindneck,; these areas cannot be seen in this photo. As photographed with adult male the ID has been left as adult female, noting these comments (GC).
