Collared Kingfisher

Collared Kingfisher
CommentI have seen Torresian Kingfishers many times over the years I have been visiting Nudgee Beach, but this is the first time I manged to get up close to clear a clear photo (I think more by luck than skill). These are beautiful birds, particularly the brilliant blue sheen that appears when hit by direct sunlight. I had my 1.4 extender on for out on the open beach to get some wader images before they commence their long journey to the northern hemisphere. This bird just landed in a nearby mangrove tree as I was walking out to the beach. I also like the glistening cobwebs in the background to further show the natural environment where these birds live.
