Australian Pied Oystercatcher

Australian Pied Oystercatcher
CommentThere were three Pied Oystercatchers wandering around on the pebbly beach where Clontarf Beach meets Woody Point at Redcliffe. One of them ventured in my direction and come up quiet close to me to have a bath in a pond created by a drainpipe exiting on the beach.

I like this image for a number of reasons, and particularly the rich red beak and water dripping down the beak after the bird had ducked its head below the water. Another feature I like is that with sun hitting the bird at the right angle, it brings out the motley purple/black feather detail which normally shows up as a flat black colour.
