Comment:Five minutes before posting this photo I received and read the Birdlife Australia November e-news, in particular the article about the invasion of Scarlet Honeyeaters. This article informed readers that these beautiful little birds are showing up in unexpected places, particularly in Victoria. Having read that a few vagrants have wandered as far as Chiltern, I decided to post two photos I took (including one 15 minutes before reading the article) to show that they have also wandered into my backyard in Wodonga. For the past week I have heard a high pitched call that I could not recognise. On Saturday sitting on my deck, I thought my eyes were playing up - as the red bottle brushes just coming into bloom seemed to be moving around. Then, I heard the call and realised that what I was seeing moving were the red heads of a few Scarlet Honeyeaters foraging for nectar. I was pleasantly surprised, as this was my first sighting ever of these little gems.
