CommentI was slow to recognise that this bird was nesting. As I lay on the sand taking a few shots, it moved very close to me and sat on the eggs only a metre or so away. I had to bid a hasty retreat. I got this shot while the bird was 3 or 4 metres away. Lucky I didn't stand on the eggs which were very hard to see until the bird moved to them. Unfortunately the nest was in fairly busy place for people traffic.
EquipmentCanon 80D with EF 100-400mm Mark 2, handheld at 400mm
1/3200 sec, f7.1, ISO 400.
Initially processed in Canon DPP 4 to crop, adjust exposure and lighting and perform noise reduction. A 16 bit TIFF file was created from the RAW DPP image and finished in PSE (Adobe Photoshop Elements v9) where further noise reduction was applied to the main subject using Neat Image plugin for PSE. The background was noise reduced and the main subject sharpened after resizing for upload.
LocationCarlo Sandblow, Rainbow Beach (Queensland)
