Hi everyone,

I've recently acquired a Canon EOS 550D and I would like to buy a lens for it. I know it is a fairly old model (still functions perfectly though), so I'm not sure which lenses would be compatible with it. I am looking for a lens that is suitable for bird photography and is within a reasonable price range. I have been leaning towards the Canon EF 400mm f/5.6L USM lens. I have done a fair bit of research but if anyone can give me further advise of Which lens would be suitable I would love to hear it.

Thanks,
Anna

Hi Anna,
The Canon 400 mm f/5.6 will give you nice image quality but as you probably know, it does not have image stabilization. This restricts what you can do to some extent. If you have the budget, the 100-400 mm f/4.5-5.6 Mark II is the best bang for your bucks all-round wildlife and birding lens in the Canon line-up.
Best wishes,
Ian

Thank you Ian,
That was the other lens I was looking at. The image stabilization does make a big difference. Now it's time to start saving!
